Characterization of autonomic release sites using the time-frequency analysis of junction potentials in smooth muscle

چکیده
The determination of probability of neurotransmitter release from neuronal release sites and their electrical characterization is an issue of central interest in neurophysiology. For autonomic nerves, this can be done by analysing the inflexions in the rising phases of the evoked junction potentials (EIPs) recorded from smooth muscle. Since these inflexions contain time-varying frequency information, we have applied recent methods of time-frequency analysis based upon wavelet transforms on ElPs to characterize autonomic neuronal function. We find that these methods allow accurate and convenient charaderization of individual release sites, and that their probability of release falls between 0.002 and 0.003. These results are compared with those reported earlier using analogue filtering techniques. The present method is advantageous as regards automation, accuracy and suppression of noise.

Theoretical Analysis of Mode of Heptanol Action on Smooth Muscle Synaptic Potentials
A theoretical analysis has been undertaken of the synaptic or "junction" potentials of syncytial smooth muscle in order to examine the most likely mode of action of a chemical, 1heptanol, that has profound effects on neurot"ission in this tissue. The smooth muscle syncytium of the mammalian vas deferens has been modelled as a bidomain electrical grid which allows simulation of the spontaneous a...

important respects from the better known skeletal neuromuscular junction; it is not a synapse with the well defined prejunctional and postjunctional specializations established for the skeletal neuromuscular synapse or ganglionic synapses. A model of the autonomic neuroeffector junction has been proposed on the basis of combined electrophysiologic, histochemical, and electron-microscopical stud...

Introduction: We did this study because there were a few studies about aorto-branch junction. Methods: Four light microscope and electron microscope study, the abdominal aorta, renal artery, and the adjoining right and left renal arteries were dissected out from 4 neonate dogs. Results: Based on the results, there is only one cell type in the tunica intima of endothelium in both art...
متن کاملFocal Ca2+ Transient Detection in Smooth Muscle
Ca2+ imaging of smooth muscle provides insight into cellular mechanisms that may not result in changes of membrane potential, such as the release of Ca2+ from internal stores, and allows multiple cells to be monitored simultaneously to assess, for example, coupling in syncytial tissue. Subcellular Ca2+ transients are common in smooth muscle, yet are difficult to measure accurately because of th...

Non-synaptic transmission is characteristic of autonomic neuroeffector junctions. The structure of the autonomic neuromuscular junction is described. The essential features are that: the terminal portions of autonomic nerve fibers are varicose and mobile, transmitters being released 'en passage' from varying distances from the effector cells; while there is no structural post-junctional special...
